How You Find Rest Amongst Your Endless Doing
Carried by the Wind: Let go to Reach New Heights.
God has been whispering:
Just be.
Rather than your endless doing.
Or your to-do lists.
Or feeling guilty about not doing enough.
Or worrying about how you will do it all.
Less Doing.
More Being.
As I paused when eating my lunch today, soaking up these words, I looked up—and there they were: seven bald eagles soaring above me. Their wings spread wide, effortless, carried by the wind—a living picture of surrender.
Isaiah 40:31 keeps coming back to me this week.
But those who hope in the Lord,
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
The eagles’ silence reveals their dependence on the wind.
But when perched in the trees nearby, oh, you hear them. A screech, more than a song. They’re holding themselves up, resisting the wind that longs to lift them. What a contrast to the freedom of surrender, the rest found in letting go.
When you see them soar, you can sense the joyful surrender in their outstretched wings. It seems too effortless. Their only resolve is to allow the wind to carry them.
May you, and may I, stretch our arms wide to catch the Wind when we find that we are holding ourselves up, resisting, forgetting our design.
By a focus on being rather than doing.
Being in His presence.
Being aware of His voice to you in your surroundings.
Being lifted by the Wind.
Instead of the output of doing. The input of being.
And being filled in the surrender.
The overflow becomes an offering to your Creator and a light to your people.
A rest to your soul amidst your daily doing.
Soar to the Height that God has Planned for You.
Greater heights with less effort. New heights reached by putting your hope in the Wind. Harnessing the Spirit’s power in you.
Permit a pause in His presence so He can remind you that you are a human being rather than a human doing1. In a five minute lunch you can renew your strength, and soar on wings like eagles, just by permitting the pause. Allowing the Wind to lead you in rest, nourishing you along the way.
Let God carry you to the heights He’s dreamed for you.
I’m praying for us both.
What is God whispering to you today?
Take a moment to look up, to listen, and to let the Spirit remind you of whose you are.
Thank you for pulling up a chair to The Contented Table. I am so glad you came.
Invite a friend for next time. At our table, there is always room for one more.
Until then, a gentle reminder,
God wants you to know:
I see you, I hear you, I love you.
Jane
Thank you, Alice Crider, for this pivotal reminder.

I need rest so I can soar when i need to. Love this piece, thank you.
I loved your house! And I can just imagine how happy Fred would be to have guests…. And I was thinking the other day of how people would just ‘drop in’ - something we so rarely do now. And I think the reason that we catch up so much at cafes is that it is ‘easier’ than being home - great points Jane about not being perfectionist.
